The New Rotterdam
In the last thirty years the city centre of Rotterdam has not only expanded, but in some cases it has been relocated. Areas formerly unfit completely have now given the city a new élan. Former harbour areas Katendrecht and the Lloydquarter are now locations where creatives and young families both get the opportunity, to work, live and study without having to give up the comforts of the city; and the Southbank has become a place where luxury and comfort can not only be found in the housing estates but also facilitates for work, leisure and short visits; and an area like Waterstad is a good way along getting rid of its hardworking and stuffy image with exciting new housing projects like the Red Apple and the Scheepmakerstoren. On the way you will stop for lunch at a unique location with a clear view on how the old and the new Rotterdam gradually start to intertwine, will you visit the Scheepvaart en Transport College (Shipping and Transport College) in the Lloydquarter, a remarkable school-building by Neutelings-Riedijk and will you get a vivid idea of the change in the city whilst standing above the large scale model of Rotterdam in the City Information Centre (CIC).
Go along with one of our professional guides and see how the city continues to move, develop and reinvent itself.
