Museum dwelling De Kiefhoek
J.J.P. Oud’s reputation as a modern architect was established by the Kiefhoek, a housing estate on the Southbank of Rotterdam. He used a functionalist urban layout and an ingenious dwelling ground plan to create maximum living space. Because of the museum house, visitors can see what the fittings, measurements and interior of an original Kiefhoek residence looked like.
The Kiefhoek: a residential estate of originally 298 1 family houses and several central facilities (i.e. shops, water-distillery) built according to the principles of the New Movement. The houses were all built around a standardized floor plan, which reflects one of the considerations of the architect, namely to design and build houses in series.
